Our recent visit to Barishpur, a model village near Vijayapura developed by Nirmithi Kendra, opened our eyes to innovative water-saving techniques that are transforming communities. In this blog post, we'll delve into the rainwater conservation model in Barishpur, showcasing how it not only conserves water but also fosters social connectivity and responsibility.

History 

Barishpur, established in 2005 by Nirmithi Kendra, serves as a shining example of rainwater harvesting and conservation. Spanning an area of seven guntas, this village epitomizes sustainable practices by integrating rainwater harvesting systems into every aspect of its infrastructure. From model shops to residential homes, rainwater is collected through various methods, emphasizing the critical importance of water conservation.

Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting:Capturing rainwater from rooftops and directing it to storage tanks for various uses.Surface Runoff Management:Employing techniques like swales, check dams, and contour trenches to slow down and capture surface runoff.Permeable Pavements:Designing surfaces that allow rainwater to infiltrate, reducing runoff and recharging groundwater.
